Recipe: Ginger Simple Syrup

Sure, you can buy simple syrup at the store for a few bucks. But all you need is sugar and water and you can make your own right at home. It takes about 10 minutes to make and another 20 minutes or so to cool down. That’s it. Better yet, add make some ginger simple syrup to take things to the next level.

But let’s not stop there, why not level up the simple syrup with some ginger. The process is almost identical, you’ll just add some diced ginger to the sugar and water while it cooks.

But why ginger, you ask? Well it’s extremely versatile as a mixer and pairs well with so many different liquors. Shake it over ice with lemon and bourbon, you have an extremely crush-able drink. Maybe use alongside some rum to add an extra dimension to your daiquiri. Or even with a splash in a gin & soda to help bring out the botanical flavors in a gin and an add a touch of sweetness.

And you just feel a little fancier when you use it.

Ginger Simple Syrup

  • 1 inch of grater or diced ginger
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Grate or dice the ginger. Grated will likely lead to more of the ginger flavor, but diced will work as well.
  2. Combine ingredients into a small saucepan on low to medium heat
  3. Stir until combined.
  4. let cool to room temperature.

Now consult your bar cart to make some dope cocktails.
